The
work this week was a little different from the
corporate events and weddings that make up professional
magicians engagements. On Saturday night I found
myself at a school in Leicester for an early Valentine's
Day party and on the Sunday I entertained at an
eleven year olds birthday party. Both could be
described as somewhat boisterous but all were
attentive and enthusiastic and on both occasions
the time flew by. The rather grainy photograph
shows me standing on a chair in the school canteen
performing the shrinking head illusion, one of
the funniest pieces of magic around.

Tonight
I performed at The Magic Circle; these are corporate
events where companies and individuals buy tickets
to see an evening of magic. They are relaxed affairs,
the audiences are always nice and we get a chance
to meet them afterwards. I found myself reflecting
on how lucky I am to make a living out of something
I enjoy.

The
highlight of the week was working with a few friends
at the Radisson Hotel at Heathrow. It is the second
year in a row we have been invited to perform
at the DAF annual dinner (www.daftrucks.co.uk).
The photograph is not good but it does show what
a spectacular night it was. The Rat pack performed
as well as a great Elvis impersonator.

Saturday

This
evening I was fortunate to perform at the Hell
Fire Caves in High Wycombe . A maze of tunnels
and caves, developed by the infamous Sir Francis
Dashwood, where he entertained friends and “ladies
of the night”!
A
very unusual setting for a 25th Anniversary! As
I walked through the labyrinth of tunnels which
lead to a cave, which was to be our function room,
you could not help but feel a certain sense of
claustrophobia. The day had been so wet that water
occasionally dripped from the stones above and
the gravel was damp underfoot.

All this may not sound welcoming but the evening
could not have been warmer, a twenty five year
relationship is a wonderful thing to celebrate
and Sue and James had delightful friends.
As
I left a gentleman, also called Tim, turned to
me and said, “You are the most normal Magicians
I have met!” Maybe that is the unique selling
point I have been looking for all these years.
The
evening was run by an excellent wedding planner,
Sandy Moretta (www.tiptopweddings.co.uk),
and the Hell Fire Caves Website can be found at
